Domestic client – Long Household, Barnard Castle
The Brief
To install solar panels, a storage battery, and bird protection to a residential property slate roof.
The Activity:
Following on from previous electrical works at the property, the household owners contacted the office to discuss the installation of a solar power solution, given the current & expected continuing electrical power cost increases.
Having surveyed the roof, the team at TL head office designed an 18 Longi 410w solar panel solution, complimented with the installation of a 6kW SolarEdge inverter, potentially the first UK installation of the ‘Home Hub Inverter’, providing the initial steps towards a power backup solution for the household, all supplied by CCL Components.
At a later date, once released by SolarEdge, this will have a gateway added to it, establishing the final stage to allow a full backup power solution in the instance of grid outages.
In this case, the roof tiles of the property were delicate, being slate, but also compounded by the graduation the roof itself, not providing the easiest of substrates to work with. Our thanks to BS Scaffolding in preparing for the roof installation and to Mark Wilson Roofing for their speedy repairs, despite the tiles being a special order item.
In addition, a Solaskirt was fitted to prevent any damage to the panels and mounting system by resting or nesting by birds.
The Result:
This bespoke designed solar power solution is expected to allow the property to self consume around 63% of the current annual electrical usage, generated by the panels and battery; resulting in an anticipated annual cost reduction of 83%, with an additional financial opportunity from exporting any excess electrical power back to the grid, depending on their tariff agreement.
The team did a fine job battling all sorts of weather which did hamper the conclusion of the works. However, they ensured that once the weather had settled as much resource was deployed to complete the job as quickly as possible.
