The Client
Westerton Storage, Bishop Auckland.
The Brief
To design, supply and install the electrical power supply, lighting and emergency lighting to a new warehouse build.
The Activity:
Westerton Storage, based in Bishop Auckland, offers caravan and container storage facilities, alongside areas of land rented by a variety of customers.
Due to the demand in the facilities offered, Westerton Storage have commissioned a new warehouse build, which required a new electrical power supply as well as internal & external lighting.
As a result of our ongoing relationship, the Tomlinson Longstaff team were tasked in designing the electrical power supply layout, as well as the specification for the lighting, emergency lighting and additional distribution board requirements.
The Build
With the new warehouse being of considerable size (25m x 15m), a number of electrical requirements were identified, not least of all the supply, installation and termination of a 4 core 25mm2 SWA cable to feed the new warehouse, fed underground from the main incoming electricity point for the site.
Once this prep work had been completed, we supplied and installed:
- 10 x LED high bay lights
- 12 x double sockets
- 4 x 13A fuse spurs for electrical supply to the roller shutters
- 125A triple pole square D distribution board.
- 63A TP MCB & metering to the existing electrical distribution board
- 4 new lights to the office space
- 2 x Ansell LED twin spot emergency lights
- 4 x Thorn Leo 100W LED floodlights to the exterior of the building
Wherever possible we always propose LED lighting options due to the lower maintenance and repair requirements, thereby saving money for the client in terms of call out fees and frequency of replacement, and offering the most energy efficient solution.
The team worked, and continue to work, alongside the builder ensuring that the works are carried out as required in terms of the build timings and client expectation.

The Result:
With the initial electrical supply works soon to be completed, the team, at the client’s request, have now turned to designing and considering the specification to add a solar technology solution to be situated on the new building roof, offering the client further gains in terms of energy generation and storage, as well as reduced energy consumption from the traditional sources and therefore cost.
Once the unit is complete in terms of build and electrical power supply, it will add another revenue stream opportunity to the client’s business and support it in its future growth on the current site.
