As a result of relocating and expanding the business, manufacturer SICUT, based in Middlesbrough, required an upgrade of the power supply (from 400A to 2,800A) to provide power for new process machinery being installed for the manufacture of Composite Railway Sleepers.
As a result of our continued excellent professional relationship, IUS/SICUT requested our team to design, supply, install, test and commission the low voltage cabling re- quired between the transformer and switchboard, as a new high voltage power ser- vice and transformer was required due to the new power requirement.
Initial surveys on-site were required, prior to the team performing design calculations and instigating pre-start meetings with the project managers, contractors and multi-trades involved, as to ensure a smooth and efficient result, as well as full health and safety compliance.
An additional challenge on this job was ensuring the cabling design & installation was suited to the external trough & internal trench, created, and installed by a third party to provide mechanical protection and ventilation to prevent against temperature fluctuations of the cabling, thereby avoiding any health and safety issues or incidents.
Power and lighting were also coordinated and installed for the Northern Power Grid GRP substation situated some distance from the production site, required to house the high voltage switchgear, with a fenced compound enclosing the 11KV trans- former.
The completion of the job to time and on the pre-agreed budget has resulted in new machinery being installed, enabling SICUT to increase their production capabilities and extend the business in terms of product output.
