External LED Lighting for Your Business

LED light are known for their efficiency and longevity. This means that if you don’t have external lighting already in place, investing in LED lighting will help to ensure that your electricity bills don’t rocket. For those who have other types of lighting, the cost-saving of replacing it with LEDs can still be significant.

Why external LED lighting?

There is much less maintenance required for LED lighting than some other types of lighting, because there are no bulbs to be replaced. Many manufacturers even offer a 5 or 7 year warranty.

If you already have external lighting installed outside of your office or school, changing to LEDs can save you money on your electricity and maintenance bills.

Once you’ve decided to install external LED lighting, there are various different types of controls you can choose from, such as:

PIR Lighting

PIR is a movement detection sensor and is a feature that many people choose to have on their security lights. It will not only switch on your LED lighting when staff are leaving and entering your building in the dark, but it will snap on if it detects any intruders trying to gain access your premises.

This system can also save you a significant amount of money as opposed to having your lights on all the time, as the light only comes on when someone moves in its range of sight.

Photocell lighting is designed to come on at dusk and go off at dawn. This is a great option if you have an area that you want to light up whenever it is dark, not just when someone moves.

Time clocks

Time clock LED lighting is great for those who want their external lighting to go on and off at certain, set times, not necessarily all night or just when movement is detected.

External LED Lighting Controls

A mixture of external LED lighting controls may work better than just one. Depending on your space, you may want to consider different types of control for different areas.

For example, staff car parks are often big, open spaces that can become targets for criminals if not properly lit. In these areas, it may be better to opt for photocell lighting, to keep the space lit all night.

Other areas, for example an entrance to a building that is rarely used, could be covered by PIR LED lighting, so that money isn’t wasted powering lights all night that simply aren’t necessary. However, having lights that come on when movement is detected, may be enough to deter intruders.
