The Client
Solar Power and Storage Design & Installation for Nigel Preston, Bowes
The Brief
To install a full solar power solution to an Artstone tiled domestic roof.
The Activity:
It’s not unusual for the team to be challenged with new substrates and situations for installations, and this was one project that again called upon their expertise.
The roof in this instance was tiled with grey Artstone tiles, constructed from glassfibre & reinforced concrete, resulting in a stronger & more durable tile that mimics the appearance of natural stone tiles.
The fact the substrate is stronger than natural tiles would indicate it is easier to work with, however it was definitely more challenging when removing and refixing the tiles.
We had arranged for Mark Wilson Roofing to be on hand to lend advice whilst the team worked on installing the Schletter fixing hooks & rail mounting system, and who installed lead flashing in places, where required, to ensure the integrity of the roof.
The team designed the installation to include 8 x Trina 420W panels, 1 x 3.68kW Solar Edge inverter to maximise sunlight energy conversion, and a 10kWh Solar Edge battery for energy storage
Our thanks goes to Teesdale Scaffolding for supplying the required scaffolding for installation.

The Result:
The solar technology solution is expected to produce around 3.46MWh of energy annually for the property, the equivalent of planting 37 trees a year!
In addition, with the combination of the solar panel system and storage battery, it is estimated that electricity bills will be reduced by around 81%.
