Power Supply for Door Access System

The Client

Vest Construction, County Durham

The Brief

To design and install the electrical power supply to enable a specified door access system to 6 external doors for additional safeguarding.

The Activity:

Following the completion of designing and installing a new electrical supply solution to the refurbished kitchen area at  St. Joseph’s RC Primary School, Blackhall Colliery, Vest Construction also asked our team to provide a new electrical power system to enable the Paxton door access system to be fitted to 6 external doors, for additional safeguarding and protection of pupils and staff.

The team installed fuse spurs, a data point and cables from the inside of each door position in advance of Integrated Electronic Security Ltd. installing ‘Maglocks’ (magnetic locks) , green ‘Break Glass’ units, a Paxton controller and a Paxton ‘reader’ (for use with the fobs) externally and internally to each door.

Complete Detection Systems Ltd. installed a fire relay next to the fire alarm panel to allow for door released in the event of an emergency.

20 fobs were supplied and commissioned by Tomlinson Longstaff for the school, which hold specific access data for assigned school personnel, at prescribed times and for identified doors.

The Result:

Due to the nature of the work, the job had to be completed during half term, working around other tradespeople, and was completed on time to the brief.

The new fob controlled door access heightens the security and safety of those within the building, as well as allowing for rapid and direct exit from the building in an emergency, crucial for all but even more so for safeguarding the young pupils who attend the school.
