The Client
Hart, Bishop Auckland
The Brief
Design and install solar power and battery technology in a domestic garden situation.
The Activity:
Mr. Hart contacted the Tomlinson Longstaff office having had our services recommended by a previous solar power client.
He was determined to have a renewable technology solution that would befit the household and help in reducing the monthly energy bill, as well as contributing to relieving the pressure on the grid for electrical power.
Following on from thorough exploration and measuring of available roof spaces, unfortunately it was not possible to install the solar panels and battery within the house space. So, as a result, our client purpose-built 3 garden mounts for the panels and created space in the garage and house for the battery, inverter and additional wiring.
The team installed the solar panel, rails, and optimisers to 3 different floor-mount structures, placed strategically in the garden space, extending the underfloor cabling from the home to the garage, where the inverter and battery were mounted, and supporting this with a larger meter/fuse box required to support the renewable tech system, for which the client created a new storage unit to keep it out of sight and in keeping with the home interior.
The full solar power solution included:
- 14 x Trina 420w All Black Solar Panels
- 1 x SolarEdge 10kWh battery
- 1 x SolarEdge 6w Home Hub inverter
- 1 x SolarEdge Home Backup Interface
- 1 x Emlite generation meter
- Renusol mounting system
- 2 x DC isolators
A huge thank you to CCL Components for the solar technology supplies, and CEF and Cleveland Cables for the electrical cabling and accessories needed to complete the job on time and within budget.

The Result:
The determination of our client will definitely pay off with an estimated 75% self consumption of solar power generated from the solar panels and battery (42% from the battery alone), with an estimated monthly energy bill saving of around £80, making a saving for the year around £960!
“I’m delighted with the work done, so please pass on my thanks to the team.”
