The Client
St. Michael’s R C Primary School, Esh, Durham
The Brief
To update electrical power, lighting, and safety requirements to classrooms.
The Activity:
St. Michael’s RC Primary School, based in Esh near Durham, is an old chapel now converted into classrooms and supporting areas for primary aged children.
For this project, the Tomlinson Longstaff team worked alongside T. Manners & Sons Ltd., to update the electrical power supply as well as a number of other electrical installations.
One classroom required a new electrical power supply supported by dado trunking to the teaching wall and appropriate data points. New lighting was also installed with PIR (passive infra-red detection technology) controls to add to the efficiency of the lighting provision, as well as emergency lighting installed to a newly suspended ceiling installation.
Fire alarm alterations were also carried out, including the fitting of smoke detectors, manual call points, and auto door closures to help protect the pupils and staff in case of emergency.
In the toilets, a new roof was installed alongside the toilets themselves and a welfare room created, requiring a wired electrical power supply for hand dryers, air freshener supply, lighting and emergency lighting.
The reception classroom offered a new teaching location also needing dado trunking and data points, as well as electrical power sockets replacing the old that the team had stripped out.

The Result:
A fabulous building steeped in history now provides not only a safe and compliant educational space for the primary pupils, but also one with up to date and efficient electrical power works.
