The Brief
Install new fire alarm devices to meet health and safety compliance as a result of a refurbishment of the library area.
The Activity:
We were invited by Teesside University, as a result of our long term working partnership, to support Pointer Fire Systems in installing an extension to the current fire alarm electrical wiring loop and deliver an extension of the current fire safety and protection system.
Following Pointer Fire Systems designing the fire alarm system layout, the team disconnected the existing system, installed the additional cabling, fixing it above the ceiling with d-line fire clips, as required by fire regulations, alongside smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points and sounders (supplied by CDS), and connected the new Honeywell Gent fire detection devices, completed by Pointer Fire Systems commissioning the full fire alarm system.
The Result:
Working alongside other third parties, there were some time pressures to have the job completed, but, as expected, the team came through on time and within budget ensuring the newly refurbished layout of the library met all the required health and safety fire standards to protect their students and staff.
