Solar Panel System on a Slate Roof in Bowes

The Client

Bowes, County Durham

The Brief

To design and install solar panels to a slate roof, with bird protection and inverter. Plus the installation of an electric car charging point.

The Activity:

Maximising roof space to generate as much solar energy as possible is always a priority for the Tomlinson Longstaff team, and this job was no exception.

The roof footprint allowed the team to look at fitting solar panels to both the east and west facing roof surfaces. This helps to offset charging an electric vehicle as much as possible from home generated solar energy, a specific request from the customer.

The team installed 32 x Trina Solar 410W full black panels (supplied by CCL Components, Glasgow), 1 x SolarEdge 8kW Home Hub inverter. As well as a Solaskirt to prevent birds nesting underneath the panels, supplied by Midsummer Energy Ltd.

Due to the delicate nature of the slate roof tiles, the specialist Renusol Mounting Kit was used, also supplied by Midsummer Energy Ltd, with the Zappi electric vehicle charging point being installed simultaneously.

BS Scaffolding Ltd. supported the team with the scaffolding requirements.

The Result:

Calculations anticipate that the solar technology solution will produce  whopping 10.07MWh a year with a carbon saving of 1.95 tonnes, the equivalent to 89 trees being planted every year!

What the customer said:

“The engineers did a great job on the solar and electric charging point installation. It all seemed to go fairly smoothly. I was kept informed of progress and everywhere was left tidy. The scaffolding was removed promptly following the work. Thanks for a great job!”
