The Brief

To update and upgrade the electrical power supply and safety measures to school changing rooms.

The Activity:

Thanks to our ongoing working partnership with T. Manners and Sons Ltd., we were invited to support the refurbishment of two changing rooms at St. Joseph’s RC Middle School, in Hexham, with electrical power reworks and updates.

Having previously worked at the school, we were aware of the time restrictions involved with the job, due to summer holidays, and the level of expectation for works completed.

We removed the old light fixtures and controls, as well as the existing ventilation installations, electrical items and fire alarms in both changing areas.

Once the team had identified the requirements of the job and designed the electrical power layout, they got to work with installing:

• new LED lighting solutions and controls as per the updated design layout proposed and agreed.
• fused spur and connection points for new extractor fans, 5 core flex cabling to link the controllers panels to the boiler room, controllers and fans.
• fused spur for the automatic air freshener, as well as a cleaning socket and double plug socket to both.
• a new combined heat detector fire alarm device to each changing room for both audible siren and flashing visual light warnings.

All works were completed despite the tight timescale, working alongside other third party suppliers and in a confided space, and our thanks goes to CEF for the MK accessories, Fusion emergency exit signs, LED emergency lighting panels, and PIR controls for the updated standard LED lighting insallation.

The Result:

The completion of the upgrade not only ensures compliance and heightened safety and safeguarding for the school, its pupils and staff, but also allows for cost savings to be made with the lower electrical power requirements for the LED lighting.
