The Brief
To redesign and complete works to a commercial unit for a change of use.
The Activity:
Due to previous works being carried out for the business to prepare, source and install electric vehicle chargers, the team were invited back by Bibus UK to complete works on a commercial unit due to a change in the use as a result of expansion of the business.
Following an on-site inspection, we designed amendments and upgrades to the current electrical works for the unit, to suit the business’s new requirements.
A mezzanine floor had been installed to create office space, for which we relocated and installed new lighting to support the new floor and office area, as well as the electrical supply for a new fire alarm system, sockets and data points, with dado trunking for cable protection and flexibility for easier changes and additions in future works.
In the ground floor workshop area, data points, lighting and a new fire alarm system were required, alongside a data cabinet with a patch panel for 14 data points and 2 WIFI access points.
Lighting to the toilet facilities were upgraded to emergency lighting for compliance purposes.

- Edmuson Durham for the trunking (MK Prestige 3D dado trunking), click sockets and switches, and the Ansell LED lighting panels and linear LED lights that we had specified in our lighting solution design.
- Complete Detection Systems for the design and commissioning of the new fire alarm system, which consisted of an L1 system fire alarm panel incorporating 13 x smoke detectors, 1 x multi heat sensor, 8 x sounder bases and 4 call points, supported by a zone plan.
- Alpine Air Conditioning (NE) Ltd, for completing the installation of 4 x air con units following our electrical supply work.
- Screwfix, Crook, for being always available and helpful for the fixings and other accessories.
And not forgetting United Powered Access (UPA) for their offer of a MEWP for the high level work involved with the project.
The client also had additional intruder alarms fitted on our recommendation, due to the change in conditions of use requiring additional security measures.
The Result:
As a result of the works completed, the commercial unit is now suited to the amended requirements of the business in terms of creating a new office space and ground floor level workshop area, delivering an enhanced working environment, additional security measures and supporting the business as it continues its growth success.
