50 Years Registered with the NICEIC, and Why It’s Such a Celebration

When it comes to electrical work, not all contractors are equal.

And after 50 years in business, every one of them as a registered member of the NICEIC, we think that’s worth talking about.

Our long-standing membership of one of the UK’s most respected electrical accreditation bodies isn’t something we take for granted. It reflects something fundamental about how we work at Tomlinson Longstaff; doing it right, every single time.

But what does NICEIC registration actually mean for you as a customer?

Here are the facts.

What Is the NICEIC?

The NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting) is one of the longest running, most established and largest electrical contracting approval certification bodies. Being on their register isn’t simply a case of signing up and paying a fee. Membership has to be earned and continuously maintained, through evidence as well as a rigorous annual full day inspection of both on-site practices and our Head Office site.

To be NICEIC registered, a contractor must demonstrate:

  • that all electricians hold the correct qualifications and up-to-date competency.
  • that test equipment is properly calibrated.
  • that appropriate insurance is in place.
  • that all work meets the standards set out in BS 7671 (the 18th edition of the IET Wiring Regulations).

In short, the NICEIC does the vetting for you.

When you choose a registered contractor, you don’t have to take their word for it, an independent body has already checked, saving you time, stress, and probably money.

Don’t Cut Corners on Safety

Whether you’re a business owner, a facilities manager, or a homeowner, ensuring your electrical works and installations are working effectively, efficiently and safely is absolutely vital for safety protection, keeping costs down and peace of mind.

But checks, assessments, reporting installation and commissioning is only as good as the contractor carrying out the work. For compliant and secure delivery of works, a contractor requires the correct qualifications, calibrated equipment, and the experience and understanding on how to fit, secure and interpret results accurately. A NICEIC-registered contractor brings all of that as standard, because the scheme requires it.

An unregistered electrician might be perfectly capable. But without independent verification, how do you know? With NICEIC, you don’t have to guess.
