Electrical Power Efficiency and Compliance in Durham

The Client

Taylormade Timber, Durham

The Brief

To update an existing distribution panel and carry out regulatory testing on site.

The Activity:

Due to the demands on the electrical power supply to the Taylormade Timber industrial site in Durham, an update to one of the main electrical distribution rooms was required, including a replacement of the distribution board panel to a new modern I-Line panel, ideal for industrial demands and protection of the distribution board.

The Tomlinson Longstaff team started by isolating the existing distribution board and stripping out the old circuits, replacing it with the installation of the new I-Line distribution panel, rerouting and re-terrminating new circuits into the new I-Line panel, adding extended cables to meet the re-routing as required.

The works were carried out during the summer shutdown period to ensure no disruption in production given the reliance of the distribution board to feed the machinery and lighting on site.

Once installed, we carried out testing of the circuits and recorded the compliance and regulatory adherence on the required formal paperwork.

Meanwhile, various other works were carried out including PAT testing of electrical equipment connected to a power socket by plug, as well as carrying out the 3-year mandatory Electrical Installation Condition Report to part of the site for the electrical installations and systems.

The Result:

The site, now up to date with health and safety compliance with recorded paperwork available, also demonstrates the benefits of a more efficient electrical installation from the distribution board to the machinery and lighting, reducing the likelihood or implications of electrical power ‘glitches’ or outages.
